Alohilani (Brightness of Heaven) Raven

Alohilani (Brightness of Heaven) Raven had been purchased as a 6 week old pup (born Jan/Feb 1999). After having her for a month, the family decided that they could not deal with the responsibilities of raising a puppy, so they were going to take her to the shelter. One of our rescue associates lived near the people who had Raven, and asked that they allow her to have Raven rather than take her to the shelter.
Our associate called us and asked if we could take her into the system. So, we took the little girl who was just the sweetest lil one you could wish to meet. We took her to our adoption days until one Saturday afternoon a gentleman stopped by, took one look at her, and said he wanted her. He sat down immediately and filled out the paperwork and then spent the rest of the afternoon at the store with her.
That following weekend we placed her into her new home with her Dad who cherished her thoroughly. Unfortunately, due to an accident, her dad had major surgery and could no longer take care of her. So, we took her back and are looking for a new family for her.
Raven needs obedience training, likes to jump on you when she is excited, and barks at you when she wants attention. She is a playful, very active, rambunctious, loving, affectionate baby who needs an adult home where she will get tons of love, attention, and exercise.

2002
I was back home visiting my family for my annual visit in the winter of 2001. One day Michael told me that they’d had quite a bit of excitement at the house earlier that day. He said that he was working on the computer when he heard nonstop barking. He’d called out for the barking to stop, but it continued on until he finally got up to investigate the cause of all the noise. He went into the laundry room where he found our dogs were very upset, standing around, wanting to go outside. But there was one dog standing at the back door barking at them, blocking their egress…Rae. She just stood there at the door barking. So Michael went to the door and was going to open it when Rae forced herself between him and the door, barking…she wouldn’t let him near the door. Finally, he decided to look out the window of the door…he could see a dog out in the back yard, whining, but keeping its distance. That was when he looked down…in the stairwell just outside the door was a 6’ long water moccasin! At that point, Michael closed the interior door, went upstairs, and out the kitchen door. He found a very large rock and a shovel…the rock he threw down upon the snake’s head, and the shovel he used to decapitate it, rendering it harmless. Once he disposed of the carcass, he reopened the basement door and the kids all got to go their merry ways…but we will always remember that it was Raven who saved not only her furry friends, but her human friend as well. Rae is a very good friend indeed!!!
UPDATE!!: As of 25 January 2002, our baby girl has finally moved in with her new mommy and daddy! We are thrilled that someone came along who finally realized what a gem we had in our Alohilani Raven. They love having her with them. Her new mom runs daily with Raven running right beside her. In the mornings Raven puts her head on the bed and looks up at her mom, asking to get up on the bed with her parents. She has a wonderful backyard that is soon to be fenced in with reinforcements so Raven won't be able to dig her way out.

2002
Rae and her parents came by the store the day we were doing the in-store Santa pictures. She was all excited to see us and we her. Of course, I just HAD to get pictures of her with Santa! :}} After they had been there for a while, Rae decided that there were a couple of dogs she didn’t like and started acting up as she used to when we’d have her at the store for adoption days. Before they left Rae’s mom and dad told me that they’d forgotten how protective she was of me. They said that any time another dog got too close to me she would get all upset and wanted to chase them off…our Rae, ever the protector.
