Pups 3 -- 31 August 2000

Princess and her family were rescued from the animal shelter in Queenstown, MD. Her mate was also brought in but he was destroyed immediately because when they reached in to get the puppies, he growled and snapped at them, so he was labeled vicious. The puppies and Princess were about to be put down when the animal control officer decided she would take them and contact a rescue group. She contacted us when the puppies were about 2 weeks old. One of our members drove up there to pick up Princess and the pups. Princess was very protective about her puppies, but after seeing that she would not be hurt, she relaxed. The puppies were named by the original foster care giver: Cindy, Chloe, Karma, & Buttercup.

As described by her original foster mom: "Buttercup is gentle, kind to her littermates and very attentive to people. Developmentally, there seems to be a time when pups start paying less attention to each other and more to the people in their lives."

Missy, who was originally called Buttercup, would come running when you called her with a big smile on her face. She and her sisters loved playing with one another, their mom Princess, and the other Chows. She and Sydney (originally called Karma) were very quick to learn how to go in and out of the doggie door and spent their time going back and forth. They were both very good about going outside to do their duty and would go directly outside first thing in the morning when let out of the puppy pen.

Missy loved to climb up into your lap to play with her sisters on you and included you by biting on you as well. The puppies were very playful, just like their mom Princess.

Missy now spends her weeks at home with her Shar-Pei brother and sister, and the weekends at her family's boat during boating season. She loves being with her family and plays with them all.
