Cynnamon (originally called Kahlua) was found running the streets of College Park, MD with a pack of dogs by the Animal Control of College Park. Whenever they pick up strays on their streets, they try to either place the rescues themselves, or get them to a rescue group. Because they didn't really know much about Chows, they called us and asked if we could take her. One of the ladies at the shelter took her home the night before we were to pick her up to get her cleaned up and ready for us. When her husband got home, he walked through the kitchen and to the room his wife was in and asked, "And what is the bear doing in the kitchen?" They fell in love with the little girl immediately as did everyone who met her.
We just happened to have had a family that was awaiting a puppy, as soon as we could find one for them. So, we drove up to College Park one day, and we took her directly to her new home. They didn't have Cynnamon for very long before they had a situation come up that necessitated their returning her to us temporarily. So, we took care of her for about a year, taking her to adoption days in order to keep up her socialization.

It finally became apparent that the adoptive family was not going to be able to take her back, so we made her available for adoption once again. One day a young gentleman came into the store, met Cynnamon, and fell in love with her sweet, gentle, playful personality. He decided that he just couldn't do without her, and filled out an application. We took her over to his home for the home inspection, and Cynnamon roamed around happily, checking out every nook and cranny, including the balcony where she could look down at all the neighbors' back yards and a huge tree where they squirrels hang out. So, we adopted Cynnamon to her new dad who adores his little girl and is very proud of how good she is. He got her enrolled right away in classes with our trainer who said Cynnamon was a really great Chow and very well adjusted.
About a month after Cynnamon went to live with her new dad, he needed to go out of town, so we had the opportunity to baby-sit her for a weekend. When we took her back home to her dad that following Monday evening, he was on the floor saying hello to her. Cynnamon was so very excited at seeing her dad that she took a running leap at him, knocked him onto his back, and started giving him tons of face kisses. Needless to say, Cynnamon and her dad have bonded very well indeed.
