Jasper

Jasper walked into the front yard of a lady who was kind enough to take him in and then call us to ask for help in finding him a new home. Jasper's rescuer has tried finding where he may have belonged to no avail. She had been calling him Chow for the lack of a better name at the time, so we came up with the name of Jasper because of his very proper, regal ways. He is a very sweet boy who may be somewhere around 2-3 yrs. of age, from our best guess. He is updated on his shots and was neutered 9/13/00. Jasper is very laid back and loving. He gets very excited when he you come home and his whole body wiggles. He can be playful at times, and likes running in the yard despite his hip dysplasia, but when you look up "couch potato" in the dictionary, you will find his picture!

Jasper and Cynnamon 25 November 2000
We had adopted Jasper out along wtih Cynnamon to a really nice family, but his unfortunately, they experienced some personal difficulties and could no longer keep them, so we took the two back and began looking for new forever homes for them.
One day a young couple who'd been visiting our rescues at our adoption days for quite some time before adopting their first Chow from us came in to see all the fur kids. They told us that Minshanko needed a companion, so they were interested in adoption of another Chow. We had by that time decided to keep Jasper ourselves as he was older and no one wanted him, but we would bring him to adoption days from time to time for socialization, just as we had Min. It was on one of those occassions that they'd asked about adoption of Min and we told them that they already knew she was ours, but they said they needed one that was good with cats and we'd told them Min was good with cats. This time when they came in, they saw Jasper and asked if they could adopt him. As with Min, we told them that they knew Jasper was not for adoption, that he was just there for socialization. Again, as with Min, they said they knew, but Min and Jasper were good friends, and we had told them that Jasper was good with cats as well, and they really needed one that would be good with the cats. So, we let them take our Jasper as we knew he would have a good home. And indeed, we couldn't have asked for a better home for our Min and Jasper.
Sadly we must say that Jasper had been having a few medical issues that had gotten too bad for him to have to deal with anymore. He had hip dysplasia and had also developed arthritis over the years. But in the past few weeks he'd been having really bad nights and the vet felt that he was suffering from either dementia or a brain tumor, as both exhibit the same type of symptoms that Jasper had. With the anxiety and pain that he'd been dealing with, a decision had to be made for his well-being. Today, Tuesday, June 27, 2006, our Jasper crossed over the rainbow bridge to join the rest of the pack. It is with heavy hearts that we who knew and loved him so dearly say farewell to our precious baby boy. Now he runs with the pack and plays and enjoys a pain free existence until we again meet. We love you Jasper and always will as you are in our hearts forevermore.
