Kane's mom, Ginia, was rescued out of Richmond along with a prior litter sister, Gorda. When we got Ginia in to the vet for her health check up, she was found to have stage 3 Heartworm. So we immediately set to having her treated.

Once the treatments were completed, we found a home for Ginia. But one day we got a call from her mom and dad saying that the day before Ginia had suddenly gotten REALLY BIG! We told them to take her immediately to the vet as we had a funny suspicion that something may be about to happen. Sure enough, they called from the vet's office saying that he told them to expect Ginia to deliver her pups either the next day or Sunday. So we took Ginia in for the blessed event until she'd weaned the pups. Sure enough, that very night she presented us with 5 puppies!!!

One of those puppies was Ehu Kane, the only red of the litter. The father of the litter was the Black Lab that had been living with Ginia and Gorda in Richmond. The litter consisted of 3 boys and 2 girls...his litter mates were all black. Kane and his one sister Missy were the only ones with coats more like that of their father.

At one of our adoption days at the Fairfax PetsMart, a young couple came looking for a dog. They saw the pups; the young man fell in love with Kane. The couple did an excellent job in raising our Kane baby who has grown up to be a VERY big boy indeed, just like his Lab daddy! And you should see him still trying to be a lap dog! hehehehehehe
