Lokelani

Lokelani (Small red rose) was thrown into a lake to drown by the breeder because of a malformed, blind eye. A lady from the newly formed SPCA shelter about an hour and a half south of Lexington, KY just happened to be there at the time and rescued Loke from the lake. They contacted us and asked if we could take the small red smooth coat Chow.
Before we even got arrangements set up to take get Lokelani to VA from KY, there was an outbreak of Parvo at the shelter. Lokelani and one other pup were the only ones who had not been exposed as both had been kept in the front office in crates, and walked out in the front lawn of the shelter rather than back in the area where the other dogs were kept. So they called us real quick and asked if we could move the transfer up sooner. We called around trying to find someone who could transport Loke for us. Finally, we found a trucking company who'd found a driver who was willing to bring her up to us. So, the ladies drove Loke up to Lexington to the trucking company's depot there. The driver brought her up in a box in his cab to the company's depot in Staunton, VA.
Lokelani was the most precious little girl and so very loving. She was very special indeed and everyone at the depot had fallen in love with her by the time we'd arrived to pick her up. We isolated her in our guestroom until we could have her checked out by our vet to make sure she hadn't been exposed to the Parvo. All was well and we began taking her to our adoption days.
Everyone thought she was so very cute and loved her, but no one wanted to adopt her. No one wanted a partially blind little girl. So, we had Lokelani for the better part of 5 months before the day came when a couple walked into the store, saw Loke, fell in love, and decided that they just had to have her.
