Good Home Wanted for Sugar Bear!!!

Age and Health:

Sugar Bear will be 3 years old in December.  She is very healthy, eats lightly and has had all of her shots and the best veterinarian care since May of 2003 (Dr. Mark Silbiger @ Marketstreet Animal Clinic).  Sugar weighs about 45-50 lbs and she is approximately 20 inches tall (top of head) and 34 inches long (head to tail).

If you feel that you could provide a loving and good home for Sugar Bear, please contact Dennis or Debbie Pettit for more information and to conduct an interview.  Our telephone number is (703) 777-8782.

Background and Mix:

We believe that Sugar Bear is a mixture of Chow and something else, German Shepherd of Russian Wolfhound perhaps.   Our son brought her home from Richmond, VA in May 2003.   She was found on the street as a pup in an area called Carytown.   She is house trained, obedient, smart and likes to be indoors more than outside (for whatever reason).   Sugar loves snow and winter; riding in a car and going for walks.

Temperament:

Sugar needs a good home with a single person or a married couple.  She is very protective and does not do well in an environment that has a lot of traffic from strangers or small children (We are somewhat isolated and she does not get exposed to a lot of new people where we live; consequently, when a stranger comes to the home she gets excited and confused).   She is a great watchdog and would be perfect for someone who feels the need for a companion and a dog for security and protection.  Sugar is very obedient, but will pick a human “alpha” that she will guard and be protective to a fault.  Sugar Bear becomes territorial with other dogs and should not be considered if you have an existing pet.

More Information about Sugar Bear:

We took Sugar Bear in as a favor to our eldest son after he graduated from college.  Our son has subsequently left home and is now married with a new baby.   We love Sugar, but we already had a dog and do not believe that our home environment is the right, long term solution for Sugar Bear (we have a lot of people coming around all of the time and this makes Sugar Bear nervous).   She is a beautiful dog and would make someone a great companion for the next 10 plus years.

We will not consider giving Sugar to just anyone, because she is a good dog that needs the right home and the right master.    Sugar is very loving, but does occasionally require a firm tone and mannerism.   We have taken dog-training lessons and these have been very good for Sugar.  She also likes to sleep in her kennel while we are away from home during the day and at night too.  This makes her feel secure.
