Yukon

15 July 2000

Yukon was a cute little puppy that was found running loose on the streets of Manassas. A lady took him in and tried to find his owners. She called the shelter and they told her she would need to hold him until the allotted time was up for finding the owners. When the time was up, we took him in to find him a new home as they couldn't keep him, already having a full house of pets.

Yukon was originally adopted out to a family, but he never really settled in to his new home. He would squat and wet himself every time the master would enter the home. Finally, they called us and asked if we could find him a new home where he might be happier. So once again Yukon came to us in search for a new home.

One day a gentleman and his wife came in to the store looking to adopt a small Chow that we had at the time. But when they saw Yukon, they fell in love with him and decided to take him instead. Yukon was still very shy of men and would try to get as far from men as he could. The couple knew it was going to be an uphill battle getting Yukon to feel safe in their home and become friends with the husband, but they were willing to do whatever it took to make him a part of their family.

We took Yukon to meet the rest of the family that consisted of a pet ferret. Yukon moved in with his new family and it was slow going, as we all knew it would be, but with much kindness, gentleness, and love, Yukon finally came around. The ferret is his best friend and he loves his mom and dad dearly! Yukon is so very well trained that when he goes outside, he immediately sits down waiting to have his paws dried.
